Phoenix PSF obtained SDK label for ecological waste management

SDK LabelThe SuperDrecksKëscht (“SDK”) in Luxembourg are activities and campaigns of the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development, the Chambre des Métiers (Chamber of Trade) and Chambre de Commerce (Chamber of Commerce) regarding the national waste management.

The SDK label and certification was developed within the frame of the waste management obligations of Luxembourg. The orientation is based on the strategy, provided by the EU, with the hierarchy prevention before preparation for re-use, before recycling, before any other use (as for instance energetic use), before disposal of waste.

The task of the SDK consists in using and implementing the most recent information in order to achieve a sustainable high-quality material management in the ecological and economic sense. Carrying out these tasks allows showing the lead in the ecological restructuring of our society. This leading role is deemed to give impetus to all sectors of the economy with the aim of environmental care and efficient use of resources.

The SDK quality label

Officially: “The SDK Quality Label for environmentally Correct Waste Management”.

The SDK label is an acknowledged label for environmentally correct waste management in companies which is granted by the Ministry of the Environment, the Chambre de Commerce and the Chambre des Métiers.

Only companies that have implemented the extensive concept for waste management of the SDK in their daily business routine receive the ‘Label priméiert’.

Criteria for the label:

  • Motivation of all participants
  • Transposition of all measures for waste prevention
  • Visible and accessible collection sites
  • Safe and environmentally correct storage
  • Waste collection according to types
  • High quality and transparent waste recycling and disposal
  • Environmentally correct management

The label SDK is certified in accordance with the ISO 14024:2000 standard. This certificate comprises among other things the control procedures and requirements the inspectors have to satisfy. Waste management in the certified businesses fully meets the requirements for ISO 14024 (which is alligned with sustainability goal 13 of the UN).

All companies receiving the label SDK are checked every year to ensure they continue to comply with the above criteria. In addition, companies that have carried the label for five continuous years receive a diploma and checks are then carried out only every second year.

SDK in Companies

SDK Label Within the framework of the National Waste Management Plan and the National Plan for Continuous Development, everyone is requested to work in an environmentally correct way, protecting energy and resources.

Waste handling sets high requirements for waste producers – this relates to:

  • Appropriate collection, sorting and storage of waste
  • Search for adequate means for re-use and recycling
  • Prevention of waste production
  • Compliance with legal regulations (in particular of the waste disposal and waste prevention law of 21 March 2012)

  • Information and advice for all questions relating to waste management, and, in particular, to waste prevention

  • Individual company concepts for the selective sorting of waste and environmentally correct storage of substances in the company
  • Establishing waste reports
  • Training and motivation of staff for the correct handling of dangerous substances and waste
  • Ecological and transparent handling of waste
  • Positive presentation of participating companies by the Quality Label for Environmentally Correct Waste Management (Quality Label SDK fir Betriber according to ISO 14024)
